Moving Pictures
The Miniclicks events at the Photo Fringe have been great – talks and workshops that really get to the heart of the content, not the technical details. The one we’re most excited about – so excited we’re sponsoring it – ends the season on Tues 13th at The Old Market. Sixteen world class photographers get to show 20 slides and talk about each for 20 seconds, so things move pretty quickly. Signed up to the Pecha Kucha format are Taylor Wessing winner Jooney Woodward, 140 Characters photographer Chris Floyd, and Tim Bowditch, who will be talking about his ace Japanese tourist project.

Interstellar Motordrive
Uniting the distant worlds of progressive psychedelia and vintage vehicles, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason is one of hundreds of enthusiasts taking part in the annual London To Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sun 4th. A regular participant in the charity drive, the event finds Mason seated behind a 5-litre, 1901 Panhard instead of his customary drum kit. Passing the chequered flag at Madeira Drive, the Veteran Car Run pre-dates even the Floyd: it was first held in 1896.

Gatsby Fashion
Think class, elegance and flappers as Sussex University’s Fashion and RAG Societies bring you their most ambitious charity fashion show to date. On Weds 7th, Brighton’s fashionistas are invited to enter the opulent world of ‘The Great Gatsby’ at All Saints Church in Hove. From wedding dresses and exclusively designed lingerie to vintage finds from Beyond Retro, this isn’t your typical school hall, Inbetweeners-esque charity fashion show.

Mean Poppa Gone
Brassy funk rock showmen Mean Poppa Lean have called it a day after seven years together. They bow out with an extended night of farewell shows on Fri 23rd, starting with two sets at The Haunt, featuring both the original and the current line-up of the band. Once The Haunt kicks out, they decamp to Sticky Mike’s for a late show of covers, collaborations and carousing. Tickets were flying out as we write, so bag yours before its too late, forever.

Glasgow See
By the time you read this you’ll have missed your chance to see the Brighton Photo Biennial, but don’t worry, the Photo Fringe still has a couple of weeks to run and there are some great new exhibitions for November. Probably the best of these is Human Endeavour’s follow up to the highly praised Degeneration. For Glasgow Effect they add a multimedia element to their large format landscape photos of the breakdown of urban spaces. It’s at the Phoenix from Tuesday 6th until Sunday 18th.

Olympic Music
Sporting memories of London 2012 may be beginning to fade, but the souvenirs keep coming. Gentleman Starkey and Annaca both played on the Emerging Icons music stage in the Olympic Park this summer, and a tie-in album has just been released. The Brighton pair nab the opening two tracks on ‘Emerging Icons In The Park’, with 20 other competition-winning acts from around the country joining them. The digital album costs a bargain £4.49 on iTunes.

Musical Treasure
Singer, pianist and Belle And Sebastian collaborator Catherine Ireton plays the latest in her series of secret Treasure Tracks gigs on Sat 17th. Ireton took on the lion’s share of vocal duties on Stuart Murdoch’s God Help The Girl album project, soon to become a feature film. Previous Treasure Tracks shows have taken place in the Booth Museum and London Road Station (complete with ticket inspector musicians). Join catherineireton.com for a treasure map to this month’s show, in collaboration with SOURCE New Music.
