KOLLAPS, Sat 9th July

An appropriately-named club night for these uncertain times, you might say. The travelling digital hardcore circus that constitutes the Kollaps collective are taking their underground sounds overground; the upper lounge of the Caroline, to be specific. Previous nights held at The Cowley Club and below Al Duomo were met by approval from nodding noise-enthusiasts, flailing glow-banders, hipsters and their queer friends alike.

A tantalising promise of ‘Homoereotic Sex Magick Visuals’ is one you might imagine appealing to Aleister Crowley, cremated at Brighton’s Woodvale Cemetery, as local history buffs will be aware. (He’d also probably take a shine to the Cerberus, the three-headed hound keeping six eyes trained on the punters behind the bar at the Caz.) There will be no satanic rituals taking place upstairs on the night, readers will be relieved to hear; only dance ones. And as the venue this time is a pub, even the dancing will have to be scaled back a little.

DJs on rotation will be Ms Kawasaki (Slum Of Legs), Amanda Robotnick (Thee Pathologies Ov Pleasure), Insipid Silks, Jack Ruby and Saint Violet. They’ll be throwing EBM, kraut-infused synthpop, Italo noir, techno and post-punk stompers into a booming (post-)industrial blender. Forget about the woes of the world for a night and revel in something that has an undeniable power to unite and inspire – eclectic repetitive beats.

The Caroline of Brunswick, Saturday 9th July 2016, 9pm – 2am (Free entry)
