Filthy Pedro Presents: Christmas Antifolk Special

The 12 Bar, on central London’s Denmark Street, used to be the fulcrum of the UK antifolk scene (and if you don’t know what antifolk is, click here). Several times a year, lo-fi indie-folk misfits gathered there, to strum half-busted guitars, recite punk-rock poetry and sing songs about runaway trains and history-loving librarians.

The 12 Bar has left Denmark Street, but the UK Antifolk Festival lives on — in Brighton. At the Hotel Pelirocco, to be precise.

Following on from this year’s Summer Antifolk Fest, organiser Filthy Pedro (pictured above) and co return to spice up your sprouts on Saturday 22nd December — the darkest day on the calendar.

Headlining is Filthy Pedro’s revamped band, featuring new members Oliver Fist (keys) and Gazic Stan (drums), alongside long-term bass abuser Jack Medley.

Elsewhere on the bill, Brighton’s Boy in the Cupboard (featuring Brighton Source’s Ben Bailey) promise “quirky indie folk, with gypsy-inspired, double bass-powered Iberian guitar styling”. Plus there’s feelgood alt-indie dance from Octopuses. See below for the full line-up.

Don’t expect slickness. Do expect fun.

The Hotel Pelirocco, Saturday 22nd December 2018. Free entry.

The bar will be open most of the day, closing at 3am.
