Artwave is back, casting a spotlight on creative endeavours outside Brighton. Over 140 homes and private spaces across Sussex open their doors on selected days through late August to display work by more than 500 artists and makers. It’s a great place to find an art bargain, meet and chat with artists, or just soak up the sun and enjoy tea and cake in a lovely location.
With over half the venues located in Lewes, Artwave offers an nice excuse for a daytrip there – while for those inclined to venture further afield the online brochure divides the rest of the county into six other handy trails encompassing Seaford, Newhaven, Glynde, Uckfield, Ringmer, Ditchling and many other villages.
Keith Petit unveils new outdoor environmental sculptures in Sheffield Park and Gardens, while Anna Hayman shows Charleston-influenced textiles and wallpaper in a beautiful 1920s house in Ringmer. Pop into Ditchling, meanwhile, for a chance to see the workshops of jewellers Pruden and Smith, or visit Swanborough to take a tour of the Artbox bookbinding studio. Admission to all venues is free, and dates and times can be found in the brochure.
