Enablers, Tues 31st Mar

Posted by Stuart Huggett

The musical outlet of poet Pete Simonelli, San Francisco’s Enablers are a band with pedigree and vision, playing tough, multi-faceted alt-rock with the noir-ish story-telling of Henry Rollins and the sometimes punishing intensity of Shellac or Swans. Enablers employ a revolving cast of musicians, with the current line-up including guitarists Joe Goldring (himself a former Swan) and Kevin Thomson and drummer Sam Ospovat. The band’s latest Brighton visit precedes the release of their fifth album next month, the sinister and shadowy ‘The Rightful Pivot’.

Stuart Huggett grew up in Hastings, writing fanzines and blogs about the town’s underground music scene. He has been a regular contributor to SOURCE, NME, The Quietus and Bowlegs. His huge archive of magazines, flyers and vinyl is either an invaluable research tool or a bloody pain. He occasionally runs tinpot record label Dizzy Tiger, DJs sporadically and plays live even less.
