The Great Escape 2019, 9th – 11th May

If you still haven’t commenced your research for 2019’s Great Escape, what are you waiting for? The fact that they’ve just announced another 120 artists is already leading to cases of Fear Of Missing Out anxiety at Source Towers. The volume and spectrum of choice is overwhelming our tiny minds – and we’ve still got the Alt Escape line-up to come.

The latest additions include some hot names from the indie rock pantheon, most notably Fat White Family – who recently sold out the Concorde 2 in less time than it takes to down a shot of Tuaca – and Snapped Ankles, who were among the highlights at February’s Mutations festival in Portslade.

The organisers have also teased us by promising to announce a “massive” Spotlight show (they’re the ones you have to pay extra for) on Tuesday 2nd April. “This show… will go down in TGE history,” boasts the TGE site. Who could possibly provoke such anticipation in Brighton? Surely only Nick Cave… *(this is just a guess, by the way. We have no idea who it is).

And after its inaugural success last year, the Beach venue will be making a welcome return, although two of the festival’s biggest queue magnets, the Pavilion Theatre and the Corn Exchange, are still closed for renovation.

We reckon it’s shaping up to be one of the best weekends in the festival’s 13-year history.
