Club Review: Junkbox

Junkbox

There’s something very satisfying about listening to underground dance music with no tunes in dark sweatboxes. Getting down and dirty is great but it’s not very sexy. Keep the great filthy electro sound, dress it up a bit and throw it through a big bass heavy soundsystem and you’ve got something much more sexy. Basically this night from up and coming DJ duo De Puta Madre takes a big room approach and twists it towards techno for something easy to get you head around on a Saturday night. At 1.30 everyone is on the dancefloor, smiling like they’re having the time of their lives. Which is what the weekend is all about really.

“It’s about keeping the girls happy,” Yiannis, one half of De Puta Madre, tells us down a phone line from Ibiza a couple of days later. “If you lose the girls you lose the party.”

There’s certainly loads of girls having fun here, all glammed up and ready for action on the dancefloor. Throw in a couple of podium dancers and the night is on heat. Not that it’s a letch-fest. Like the best clubs everyone is too distracted by the music to grapple each other. And if you want to check out why the music is so diverting, head over to www.deputamadre.co.uk where you can download sets from the night. And if you’re still undecided whether to risk you cash, look out for the De Puta Madre Summer Sundays – a bunch of free parties at various venues all summer. Or you could just go to Junkbox on our recommendation.
