Club Review: Smash N Grab

Club Preview June 2010

The last two really amazing club nights – proper mind blowing nights – we’ve been to have been chalk’n’cheese and suggest a generational split to dancing the night away. Carl Craig’s surprise appearance at Jam drew a serious crowd of reverential older musos, locked into the dancefloor all night, while Smash & Grab was a riot in every corner of the club as pop music clashed with r’n’b and dubstep. The young crowd knew their music and bounced the dancefloor with enthusiasm to the love songs provide by the Queens Of Noize, Sally SexFace Nathan Detroit and yours truly. Oh, there was another DJ too – Florence (minus The Machine). Her enthusiasm was contagious and the party throwdown almost took the roof off the Concorde. It wasn’t just about the music though – the video booth, dressing up box, holiday themed photo booth and face/tattoo painter all got plenty of action. A real adventure.
