Compared to summer, autumn sucks. But the very fine silver lining on the massive storm clouds is that it’s time to go shopping for scarves. We’re not expecting to find one with a hood – a hood! a bloody hood! – like Nicki here but it’s the one accessory that you can kid yourself is actually practical rather than merely decorative. And anyway, a good scarf can just about prolong the use of jackets until January, when you can get a new winter coat in the sale. We haven’t made up our minds about which way we’re going on the scarf front but we’re edging towards 70s rambler chic for AW09/10 – if we’re stylistically wrong at least we’ll be warm.

Jacket from TK Maxx
“It’s a Swedish label that I can’t remember – I really like the sleeves, and it fits really well.”

Scarf from River Island
“It’s really cosy and it’s got a hood. I’m living in it already this autumn.”

Cardigan from Beyond Retro
“It’s a big, fluffy 80s cardi with good shoulder pads – lovely and warm.”

Jeans from Top Shop
“Basically, stonewash grey jeans go with everything.”

Boots from TK Maxx
“They’re no label but they were a really good bargain. TK Maxx has had a load of Luella in lately – it’s been great.”
