Eleanor Friedberger, 9th Sept

Posted by Jon Southcoasting

Eleanor Friedberger is perhaps better known as one half of the sibling band The Fiery Furnaces. Not for much longer, as that band went into hiatus about five years ago and Friedberger released her third excellent solo album earlier this year.

The album ‘New View’ is a powerful collection of independent music, which Friedberger classifies as “an adult woman’s album”, with songs largely focusing on relationships without sounding miserable or hurt. Well supported by an excellent band, ‘New View’ is both quirky and moving and scored a very impressive 80% on metacritic.

It’s going to be a treat to see the songs performed live in as small and intimate a venue as the Hope & Ruin. Support comes from excellent local band Porridge Radio whose new album ‘Rice, Pasta & Other Fillers’ has been cooking up quite a storm. One of the best live bands around town.
