Triptych Mini-Fest, 16th-18th Jan

Love Thy Neighbour return with their annual mini-fest Triptych, a community service for all of us drowning in the January dead-zone. Spread over three nights, each session features three bands (so a triptych within a triptych), hung together with careful curation and an emphasis on local movers and shakers.

Triptych 1 features: Hilang Child’s lush, multi-layered songs, soaring vocals and the emotional punch of anthems in waiting; Abi Wade’s string-driven orchestral pop, swooping from playful to gothic; and Cubzoa (Jack Wolter on sabbatical from Penelope Isles) dipping further into a lo-fi, guitar jangling, slightly psyched world.

For Triptych 2 you get: Zooni’s gentle beats, tense acoustics and heart-tugging vulnerable melodies; Hanya’s newly confident and physical shoegaze with strident shades of Anna Calvi; and Ciel’s inventive and dreamy mix of post-punk electronica and 80s earworms.

Triptych 3 ends with a rumbustious threesome: Our Family Dog (angry, shouty with a raw punk spirit) Happy Couple (constructors of noise rock with drama and dynamics); and those south-coast stalwarts Beach Riot (all the fuzz pop hooks and hits in the making).

And what’s more, there are ticket offers and a limited edition lathe-cut vinyl release from each night’s proceedings for the taking… it’s like mid-winter blues were a thing of the past.
