Joanna Gruesome, Sunday 20th March

Posted by Stuart Huggett

Noisy Welsh-born punkas Joanna Gruesome finish off a three-date tour with this Sunday evening show. Vocalists Kate (of Glasgow punks Pennycress) and Roxy (still playing as Two White Cranes, and with fellow J-Gruer Owen in Grubs) have now had plenty of time to settle in with the group, following Alanna McArdle’s departure last summer. There’s likely to be some work in progress new music tonight, as well as tune-bombs from their Welsh Music Prize winning debut ‘Weird Sister’ and last year’s sugar-packed follow-up ‘Peanut Butter’.

Stuart Huggett grew up in Hastings, writing fanzines and blogs about the town’s underground music scene. He has been a regular contributor to SOURCE, NME, The Quietus and Bowlegs. His huge archive of magazines, flyers and vinyl is either an invaluable research tool or a bloody pain. He occasionally runs tinpot record label Dizzy Tiger, DJs sporadically and plays live even less.
